Venting cooling air out the hood means it doesn't have to exit from the bottom of the car, increasing lift.

If you don't have air coming out of the engine bay, you can build a set of venturi tunnels under the car. This should increase downforce with minimal increase in drag. A diffuser will help you here. Google ground effect cars for some ideas. There are drawbacks, such as porpoising.

Someone here used body shop sticky plastic to make a pseudo fastback for a Civic del Sol or an MR2. Pretty cheap & if the organisers make you take it off, it's easy.
