My first motor was a bolt-on. It was 24 volts, had its own small chain and gear on the rim. Adequate.
That hub motor I have now has 36 volts. It ran about 15 to 20 mph. Upgrading the controller gave it much more boost or torque which made those 5 little clutches slip. It goes faster than I want already! More than adequate!
20" Kenda Kwest tires. That gearing was very low with smaller wheels. I put a 72 tooth ring on front to compensate.
