A volt meter hooked up to it and drive slowly. If it gives voltage, none, voltage, none... and the frequincy varies with speed you have it. I would be careful taping wires you are not sure about though. One other thing you could try is finding the VSS itself and checking continuity between the one you have found and and the connector on the vss.

For both of these you should be able to tap directly to the wires on the VSS and an injector.
