My oil is about 4K miles into it and is still golden-brown. It's not pretty like it is when you pour it in, but it's definitely not black. It's darker, but not black.

I've always been under the impression that the black was soot from the combustion, that's why used oil always smells like an engine that's running rich.
The analysis I had was about $40 after all was said and done.
