If you have a Scangauge II and have "horsepower" programmed into it, you will notice that while on cruise control that the horsepower will go up and down at regular intervals. In a way, cruise control is doing a very minor pulse and glide to maintain speed. This may be why cruise control can be best on long flat stretches vice trying to keep that right foot at a steady throttle/speed.
