Interesting to read that you are having this trend going too.
Before 2000 here you had ton to choose with around 100 euros, inspection done and roadworthy cars, that would last year or maybe even two.
Today, such cars seem to cost around 1000 euros, some can be found for around 500 but nothing like 10 years ago.
I think there are few reasons, eco campaigns that are really new car sales boosting, in those older good cars are crushed and not even good parts are reused.
Fuel prices have gone up, so there is higher demand for small cheap to run cars.
Then rot problem is taking care of all the simple and good cars and they add more salt to roads and plan to ban it from table (well that is what I'm afraid of at least).
