Accelerating too slowly actually hurts FE, there are some threads about acceleration strategies and a good one on brake specific fuel consumption. I suggest you look them up. Also: some automatics need a little coaxing to get the best out of them, like tricking it to shift up by lifting off and then depressing the gas pedal again as much as possible without it shifting down again.
