The whole reason they dont, I think, is that all they are concerned with is the public perception, or what is in vogue....they round off the corners of cars in the rear, to give the perception that the car is aerodynamic, meanwhile that is actually counter-aero. No one looks underneath, so they dont bother. Only now with gas approaching $5/gal are they starting to close off some areas, but aside from spending $250k on an SLR or Ferrari, you wont be seeing a bellypan like this anywhere yet.
