The thing is, with higher cold pressure, the amount of heat added when you drive is less, and therefore the amount of additional pressure is much lower, than if you start at a lower pressure.

The bottom line is, running at the highest safe pressure (sidewall maximum is safe), means you minimize the rolling resistance, which means you can use less energy. Though you need to learn to ecodrive, so as to take advantage of this.
