Not sure why you wouldn't count it toward your mpg. The distance is being traveled. I don't stop counting the first eight miles of my commute, but my engine is off for all but about 5 seconds of it. There's no doubt I use the gas when I'm going back up the hill in the evenings.
Sometimes I push my car out of the garage rather than start it to roll it out in the morning. It saves less than .01 gallon, but mostly it just puts less exhaust in the garage and I just don't like having that smell seep into the house while the GF sleeps in. Of course sometimes I don't park at the right angle and thus don't have the room to get a good push, so that means I have to start my car twice for five seconds in the first eight miles and that makes me sad.
