i have found that even filling to the bottom of the filler tube in the tank can be tricky, i was using a frameing square to measure as back up. now this may not be a good thing to do but close to the top of the filler tube in my tank (suzuki DR200) is some type of square hole, at that spot it is eaiser to gauge plus i still measure. i do now measure after a minimium of 150miles that way a little off will not have as much affect. as filling up goes i use a 32 ounce measuring cup and a 3oz. turkey baster.
