I'm getting better gas mileage with my tailgate down.

I've built two different types. The larger one does mount to the trailer hitch receiver. It doubles as a cargo carrier.

The smaller one, it sets upon the open lowered tailgate. Since it is open on the inside, the volume of your truck bed is increased by two feet in length. You can now haul full 4x8 foot sheets of plywood laid flat in a 6 and a half foot long bed while getting some very impressive mpg figures too!
