So we are very clear, and this is to save your butt: DO THE TIMING BELT SERVICE!!!!! It's a no clearance motor and since you don't know the history, do the belt and get it off your mind.
I'd check the valve clearances too while I was at it.
Change the fuel filter and air filter.
Grab a bushing kit for the shifter.
Fill the tank with some fresh diesel and a bottle of Diesel Kleen in the silver bottle.
Check the injectors with the engine running, make sure there are no leaks.
Grab a return line kit for the injectors ( the little rubber lines on the injectors ).
We still have to talk Ford, buuuddy!
