The fan is a relatively high amp accessory, and the added load could negate (possibly worsen) your fuel economy compared to the aero gains of the grille block.

is there any way to detect the fan kicking on? I didn't hear it come on even after I rolled down my windows from getting off the freeway, and when its on I usually hear it cause its really loud...
