Nope, no electric hybrid for this one! I engineered a diesel engine swap, using the drivetrain out of a '97 Jetta TDI, which is fairly fuel efficient to begin with. Some tuning, some aerodynamic mods, and a LOT of careful driving/hypermiling techniques helps push my mileage figure up there.
