...the EPA claims 1-2% improvement in MPG for every 100 lbs reduction in 3,000 lb range vehicles, so a 300 lb reduction (550-250) should be worth about 3-6% improvement.
...however, the 3.08:1 axle ratio will net a BIGGER improvement, for sure, although your "load-hauling" capabilities will go down.
