FE be hugged - Top 5 cars

OK an antidote to the top 5 FE be damned cars, what are your top 5 fuel sippers. These have to have been in mainstream production (no prototypes but road legal FE competition (e.g. X-prize) cars allowed - as long as they are road legal).

Again top 5 and why.

To start the ball rolling, my top 5.

1. Citroen AX 1.5D

Lightweight (plastic panels, aluminium engine) and aerodynamic. PSA claimed a link to the Eco2000 project but, well, maybe. Pump up those tyres and update the engine with a newer 1.4 HDi...

2. Austin 7

This is the UK version of the Ford Model T - it shared the idea of car ownership with the masses before and after the war. 747cc sidevalve, 3 speed manual. The "Ulster" one is super light and fast.

3. LUPO 3L

A factory attempt to make a car that consumes 3 litres of fuel per 100 km. A superb basis for an ecomodder, as vekke as shown.

4. Mini 1000

The 998cc A-series engine seems to be the best compromise between power and FE for an old style Mini. Although I may turn this into a Mini Marcos kit instead... the original Mini body has a cd of 0.47.

A stripped out Mini is very light though.

5. Citroen 2CV

From test results in car mags when I was young I've never thought of the 2CV being as good as the Mini for FE, and it is slower. I would like to try one though and maybe "ecomodder it" with a new aero body and long gearing.
