body tape...

3M makes an excellent body tape (it is very expensive for tape). I think I've paid $3 or so for a 12" length. I purchased it at a local Napa store. I used it to attach a metal bracket to a tiled wall. It was strong enough for me to support my weight (200 lbs.) until it looked like I was going to tear all the tiles off the wall. It is perhaps 1/16'" thick and usually a medium grey in colour. Any good autobody repair shop should have short lengths available.

This is automotive body tape (3M). If given a choice, ask for the better stuff (I think Napa lists 2 types, one light duty and one heavy duty). Another method may be to either make or purchase some robust metal "L" brackets or make your own. Use existing mounting screw locations if possible. I am not suggesting any start drilling any body panels on a new or newer car.
