Vekke, have you checked out the Eagle cruise control ?
Apparently, being a hand-throttle, it locks the fuel consumption, instead of the speed. It's also dead cheap
Came across it when reading through the mods done to the green Lupo 3L in that Dutch thread.
On one of the pics, you can also see the guy covered the sides of the engine with thermal insulation.
