So do that test. You don't need two cars, though- we can just assume that the properly maintained car won't show much wear. Tear your engine down every 10,000 miles and photograph the parts, and see how long it lasts. Most of the experimenters here don't test their rigs to destruction, though.
The way I see it, every engine is different, lubrication is not bad, and an oil change once in a while isn't expensive. I don't feel that I'm being "too safe" or taken advantage of.

The biggest profit when selling oil is reached at Car brand representatives, like you own a VW and you go VW authorised service for changing the oil, not at regular mechanics, becuase they say its original oil. That oil is taken from the same tank but it just bears another sticker. Its just bussines nothing else. The final costumer is the biggest looser!
