Maybe someday I'll take a pic of some plugs I've pulled out after they've been in 50,000 miles and we'll see how bad they are... wish I would've taken a pic of the OEM air filter I finally changed at 80,000 miles out of pure guilt (now thinking I should have left it in).

Here is what a brand new one looks like, center diode is the same height as outer area. The plugs I pulled were 2-3mm shorter and when the spark gets farther away from the rotor it makes a big difference in combustion in a Wankel motor. They do have Iridium and platinum which lasts slightly longer, up to 10,000 miles under normal driving but I usually redline to 9000rpm 5 times a day 1-3rd gears before. Maybe it;s time for me to push the MPG of one of my rx7's and see how long i can get out of a set of plugs just for your sake Frank! lol
Oh and yes, the trailing plugs tend to wear out before the leading plugs because they get hotter of course.
BTW I would probably look at you the same way as when you first looked at me when I said I change them every 3000 miles! lol I bet you even looked at your plugs after 50k miles and said hot damm! lol
