I hear a lot about losses in things like SSRs, which I use for a lot of things.
DIY 230vac adjustable power limiter - EcoRenovator

I use large heat sinks most of the time, but have never noticed any
large amount of heat being coming off the devices.
Maybe I'm not running enough power, keeping things under 10 amps..?.
