Yes. In the Texas summer this is important - you can only use the reflective cover on that one window, so face it where the worst heat gain would be.
Watch the traffic patterns before you start up. You can often exit the lot and get be on your way with not stops if you time it right.
Automatic transmission - turn the car off, then shift to P. Saves a second or two of idling.
