Towing an extra battery pack for plug ins extended range

So, Electric vehicles are basically all torque. I'm wondering instead of getting range anxiety why not just have a towable extended range battery pack?

Those of you who are electrical engineers might be able to answer the question of a Tank 2 switchable system like the old trucks... what system surges should be worried about? Can a parallel system teaming the two battery packs together be a useful system? What suggestions do you have for such a system.
