He also learned it made a minimal improvement over a facory sloped windsheild.
Hucho shows a chart of windsheild angles, basically there is minimal change until an angle much more vertical than modern autos have.

As an added point, plexi is much more expensive than foam/fiberglass.
FRF is also easier to shape with a sander or hot wire.
