New Car and looking for advice

I am new here, but have been trolling for over a year. I just sold my big Cummins Dodge and got a 1998 Kia Sephia.
The Dodge was nice, but was costing me almost $1000 a month in payment ($400), fuel (+/- $500) and insurance ($100) It had to go!
The Kia I got is a 4 door with Automatic but other wise stripped. I know that I will never see the kind of mileage that the Metro/Firefly gets or the Civic and other little 2 doors get, but I would still like to improve it from whatever it currently is.
I have had it for 2 days and have not established a baseline yet, but assume it will be around 30 mpg. I think 35 mpg would be a reasonable goal at first.
Here is the list of planned mods, please let me know if I am tracking right or missing something.
Scan gauge
Full moon hub caps
Full tune-up
Increase tire pressure(within safe limits)
Block part of the grill openings
Add spoiler at front below bumper and maybe side skirts.
fender skirts?

Is there anything I can do at the back of the car seeing as its a sedan? I do not want to add some big coroplast appendage, I want to remain visually conservative.

Thanks for any advice you can give.
