Like gasoline doesn't catch fire in crashes? (Even if not as often as Hollywood would have us believe :-)) So it seems the only difference is that the gas catches fire immediately, while the battery catches fire three weeks later...

PS: And not even in crashes. I remember the time my ex left her pickup idling in the driveway while she ran into the house for something, and when she went back out it was burning.
