I hooked up my digital voltmeter (the permanent one) to the power and ground of my cigarette lighter.

As for my DMM when I had that hooked up temporarily, that was alligator clipped into the power and ground wires that I had for the SuperMID.


And, echomodder, be sure that you're not just "adding a 2nd battery" to your starter battery.

Starter batteries aren't up to the demands of deep-cycle use. They'll have very short and painful lives if you try to use them in an alternator-less application.

Deep-cycle batteries are designed for this type of use, and as long as you charge it appropriately, the batteries should have a long and happy life.
