If we all want to make economic sense by buying the cheapest car we can then shouldn't we all be driving Geo Metro's or the Tata Nano? but no, people still feel the need to buy thing that cost more then what they really need, for example my boss bought a Saab as a way to save gas, while he could have gotten a car that got better mileage and cost less at the same time, but it's saving him gas, getting over twice the mileage of his other vehicle.
While the Tesla S is going to be an expensive car there are going to be a ton of people who are more then willing to buy it even if they are given a cheaper option because that cheaper option will most likely perform or feel like a cheaper option.
