what about a little more practicable solution? a adjustable switch at the throttle, for WOT alternator disable. every time, you go for accel the car, the alt is go for a rest. if the car is coasting or idling, the loss is filled up. kinda hybrid, my prius do this every day.

in fakt i did this with the santamos AC and the little caravan behind, uphill the AC was switched off and the car maintained the speed.
