Well took a trip from up around Atlanta,Ga. Sat morning, down to Gainesville,FL. 315 miles got off an exit early so ended up being around 330 miles... Made it on close to 5 gal keeping an average speed of 50-55 mph on I-75 south. In the way back Sunday afternoon I tried this draft a 18 wheeler theory... Yeah got fussed at by one other driver about following to close to the truck in front of me (I have a cb radio) but I mean come on I am in the interstate in a soda can with a gasoline engine Bahahaha it's dangerous either way... My point is I went around 62-65 mph right behind this 18 wheeler and he had the side skirts and was going a bit slower than everyone else so I figured why not... I followed for about 70-80 miles. It started getting dark so I figured to back off due to lack if visibility caused by the dark. I filled up in Macon,Ga. and in the tank I got 62.04 mpg. I believe that in my car that I would see a better gain going slower and not drafting on the interstate.... As long as I am not over 20mph under the posted speed. Something told me to check under the hood after we stopped for dinner and I noticed what looked like to be oil under the hood on the front sidebar the engine.. After further investigating the mysterious fluid I realized that it was antifreeze. I started searching for the cause and I noticed it dripping out of the water pump seep hole. So luckily my folks had driven down separately and they had eaten dinner with us so I took the car across the street to a secure location (walmart parking lot) with cameras and rode with them to the house to get the truck and return the car to the house... I just got the new water pump installed last night and am at a good point to install the XFI camshaft, but I am unsure about it because people are saying that they are only seeing 2-3 mpg gains from it and that the cam will fall on it's face at 4k + rpms. I know that I should not see 4k rpms , but this cam will only save me around $100 a year and I was told this cam would bet me around 8-12 mpg improvement, and the guy at the regrind shop told me I should see around 15-20 mpg improvement based on what I was getting with the "stock" cam. I know better atleast I think I do about the 15-20 improvement. I would like to know if you guys with the XFI cam swap would do it again if they had the option . Just uncertain I want to install this cam.. Suggestions??? Thanks guys sorry for the long post...
