The sound system in the Lex is one of the best audio systems ive ever heard.... it's one of the things I love about driving it... Its just ***SUPERB***
so, add on 3-5 amps without question...
Here's what i thought:
Water pump: .............8 amps (off the Davis Craig web site)
Electric fan: ............ 11 amps (off the DC web site)
Power steering pump: 12 amps (off some web site)
Fuel injection pump: 25 amps (that was a guess considering the pressure
it Runs at... 20,000 psi ... a guess...)
All the ECU's: ............10 amps... and there is an ECU for everything... even
the mirrors have their own ECU
Ignition: ...................15 amps... a guess
Audio:....................... 5 amps
= 86 amps
Well I over estimated everything... put 2 or 3 of these 450 amp lithium brutes in the boot, run 00 or 01 cable...
Just guessing, it might pick up 10-15% more RWHP and after tuning the fuel map(when i had it on the dyno 209rwhp, the guy said it was rich everywhere)
Ive got a digital fuel adjuster so (i'm guessing) I'd lean off the closed loop...
I may get a few % better FE.... and if and when Ive got $1,000 to splash out and purchase an Aquamist HFS-6.. a fully mapable and programable water injection... you can even really go crazy and put an engine together and go up on the compression from 10:5-1 to 12,13 or 14:1... it can be tuned to run full time WI.... I know that's going right over the top but if ever i had the time and money.... there's a big handfull of torque to be had with WI and hi-compression....
But.. getting back to the 'no fanbelt' issue... I really like it... having a semi-electric Lex....apart from the 25%+ better FE & more power, quiter & smoother... It'd be heaps'o'fun... getting power for free... I live in a 7 storey block of apartments so plugging into the powerpoint on the underground car park in affect costs me nothing....
so yeah, it's all quite achievable....
.... More Power.... Better Fuel Economy..... it's got a nice ring to it...
COST: electric water pump $300...electric fan $150...electric PS pump $500
so say $1,000 for the 3 electric pumps...
Big kick arse Lithium batteries $500 each or
Two or three 450 amp 14 volt AGM lead batts... $300 each
Desent 14 volt charger or Lithium BMS charger probably $600+
Disconnection and reconnection of all parts, fabrication, metalwork..
welding, cables, wiring & a few fancy gauges $1,000- $1,500
* * * So to do fancy job with 3 decent lithiums, decent charger, cabling and a couple of sexy gauges $4,500 (BTW, I don't know how to calculate battery size in relation to current being drawn... haven't got a clue
... )
* So if you did most of the work yourself and only used 2 batteries... and
a smaller charger, sourced parts from wreckers, ebay... maybe $2,000+
*** and if you go with top flight water injection add another $1,000-$1,500
Jeeez Louise... where does it stop ? . . Oh and i nearly forgot... there's raising the compression, exhaust mods, lightweight wheels, air dams, spoilers
..... And to throw a spanner in the works, the next ACTUAL large scale mod is LPG conversion. The government is giving $1,500 rebate on getting LPG fitted, so you pay $4,000 and when it's all finished they give you $1,500 back
so all up it's about $2,500... And that's for the latest Liquid Gas Injection.. It works just like FE except it's LILPG... Their claiming 5% better torque, uses the same amount as petrol, and it's 65 cents per litre where as premium unleaded is $1.65. So LPG is $55 to fill the Lex and Premium Unleaded is $140 to fill the tank... so it'll pay for itself in less than a year.... Woo-Hoo...
So......... LPG combined with being a semi-electric, you'll have 340hp on tap with the economy of my girlfriends car.... an '02 Peugeot 307.. 1.6 petrol
.... futures look'in good....
