Looks like I'm going to be doing this repair sooner than I thought.
I drove it for a week, to get a base line for FE (45.2mpg) and to shake the loose rust off.
in the photos, the metal in the center of the damaged area is the bottom of the tube. the top is gone.
So, it's out with the engine & steering so I can clean it up & cut and weld in new metal. I'll be removing rust and forming 1/8" plate to weld in.[IMG][IMG]
