Bmw 540i/6 Eco-modding

I have a 1995 bmw 540i-6 speed (v8) that I started doing some experimenting on.
I made upper grill blocks, an air dam to direct air through my radiator instead of under my oil pan, and I'm playing with home made vortex generators above the rear window.

I haven't had a chance to test the mpg on these, but I have found out that my car will not over heat with the grill blocks.

The biggest mpg gain I've had is when I modified the stock intake by removing the bottom half of the airbox, and added a heat shield to block off heat where the element is exposed. with the heatsheild in place I see a 2mpg gain on the freeway!! Conversely, i've removed it several times and the mpg drops 2mpg every time.

Make yourself an intake heatshield!!
