Perfect timing to answer this question since I got my car a year ago. I drove 20,000 miles. That's a ton, mostly due to my commute.
There's been talk of doing similar in the US , taxing people for the miles driven due rather than pay gas taxes per gallon of gas purchased due to more fuel efficient vehicles on the road that use less gas.
