Thanks James. If I can sell this thing my parents are going to drive my Rabbit out to Wis. Dells for spring break and I can drive that back. It's nice to have a car, even if it's not necessary. Today I went to CVS on my bike and filled a military duffel bag. It wasn't exactly fun.
It's posted on xceedspeed and michigan vw right now, but here's the ad:

1992 Ford Probe GL Aeromodded Beater
Runs and drives but battery is not charging properly.
I bought this from a friend in August 2011 as a winter beater and made aerodynamic modifications which in conjunction with driving techniques raised the fuel economy from EPA 24 combined to a current 40.79 MPG lifetime average. That's a 70% increase. I have gone 500 miles with only 12 gallons in this car.
It was good to me until it failed to start back in late November. I went off to winter break and installed a rebuilt alternator with the help of chewie. At that time it gained an Optima battery courtesy of Linkster to get me home (since the old battery was drained).
The morning after the alternator job the car refused to even turn over. I followed the PO's advice of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and it worked fine. We think the computer needed to be reset or something. This only happened once. I then drove it on and off for a couple weeks and the battery ran out on i75 last Saturday. It was towed back to Detroit and when I put a charger on it, it started and drove like normal.
Chewie and Link came down and we put a volt meter on it. The alternator charges for the first few minutes, then shuts off for good. The battery holds a good 15V when the alt is working. Chewie thinks there's a problem in the harness.
I'm in my last semester at CCS and don't have the time or patience to mess around with this thing out in the cold.

Make me a reasonable offer. It costs me nothing to let this thing sit in the garage.
