That depends. If you start from the point of needing a 4WD pickup (which some of us do) then search for the one with the best mpg, his plan makes sense.

But I think it's rather sad that he only gets 23 mpg from his brand-new, latest-technology Toyota pickup, when I average around 27 mpg in my '88.
