Thanks for the suggestion--I think I have a grip now.

Toyota stopped putting ring/pinion on the door jam in 2005. (So Toyota is not to blame) The codes you read (AO2A?) are for 2004 and older. Toyota made things really easy--- 4cyl 4wd-4.10 r&P (no option); 4cyl 2wd 5sp 3.31 r&p; 4cyl 2wd auto 3.58 r&p.

I'm sure the window sticker said 4.10 r&p.

I would think when you sat down with the salesman and requested something that is not available he should have told you. $0.02
