I like Craig Vetter's mind set on the whole competition in that he is encouraging real world solutions such as starting with a readily available used bike and using a straight sided tail with no complex curves so it is easy to cover out of locally available parts. There will always be $20,000 machines showing up for challenges but I wouldn't feel too bad about not beating them. The whole idea is to get people to at least do whatever they can to enjoy traveling while using less gas.
