That reminds me of a day last July in Ontario. The backup to the 1000 Islands Bridge was immense. I got to do some backseat hypermiling, telling my wife to open the windows and shut down the engine.

The whole road had turned into kind of a block party and I was walking my kids along it when we came across a guy changing the tire on his trailer. I asked if he needed any help and he said "you know, you're like the 10th person to offer, but I'm almost done." It was nice to be in a large crowd of tired, delayed travelers on a hot day who still, as a group, were trying to help each other out.
