Yesterday I went to fill up on the expensive $4.28 per gallon Chicago gas prices with my '93 Chevy Lumina and recorded a 3.39mpg increase over its previous 17.58mpg for a total of 20.87mpg, 70% city, 30% highway. EPA estimates are only 20 combined 55% city, 45% highway.
To achieve this, I switched to all season tires from my winter tires, pumped up my all seasons to 35psi front, 40 rear, made sure all of my fluids were filled, put 4 ounces of Lucas Fuel Treatment in my fuel to hopefully clean up injectors, etc, used general hypermiling tactics in city driving, and took out about 10 to 15 lbs of junk from my car.
PS. In 2010, I followed pretty much the same routine and was able to net 20.7mpg from fill up to the next with the same routine.
Overall, really excited!
