I just put my summer tires back on my vx and checked the wear, dead even and I've been running them at the full side wall max for the last 3 years that I've owned the car, do a search on here if you want to read more about tire pressure, there are also a few pages dedicated to coasting distance tests and road tests at different pressures and with different tires of the same size but of different types/rolling resistances.
Making sure your car is well tuned and in good running order is a great first step, this includes checking the brakes for drag and alinement.
Next on my list for my civic VX is low rolling resistance tires, to stay with the stock 165mm width I'm hoping to get 14" civic hybrid rims and put 165/65 R14 tires on them, same size as the Honda Insight used.
