I added window vent visors to help the car stay cool. They do a great job at venting hot air during the day, rain or shine.

Solar Integration

As a follow up to adding the ability to turn my alternator on and off, I converted the driving lights to LED’s. I am still looking for some low energy head lights. It has made a large impact on the load of the electrical system. In doing so, I also had to add a special LED flasher. I built a small pig tail so the new larger flasher would work.

I decided on adding the solar components from the past Previa project. I removed those items before I sold it. I have been waiting to buy some semi-flexible solar panels, but I decided to just use what I had on hand and buy the semi-flexible panels later.

As you can see, I mounted the panel inside the car. This is obviously not the ideal setup, but it does work. I park the rear of the car facing towards the sun. It sits this way all day until the sun goes down the other side, currently around 7:30 pm. Again, this panel does great in the shade, so it still charges the deep cycle battery well.

The big problem I am going to have is when I tint my windows. I will have to use a roof mounted panel once I tint them.
