If economy is your goal then spark plugs do make a difference.
I have a 1994 Ford Aspire and spent a few days testing and trial running different plugs.
I used the same test route, drove the exact same speed and refilled up and did the math for an accurate mpg readings.
The absolute best I have found so far (for the ford aspire anyway) is Pulse plugs.
I tried the platinums, splitfires, e3s, but the pulse plugs did me 3 miles per gallon better than the next best(E3s).
If you have an Aspire or Festiva I highly recommend them.
Any top quality wires will do.
