I didn't use to appreciate NASCAR either, then I started to learn some of the technical aspects that made it more interesting. Things such as a partial grill block affect top speed. Block off more of the grill and the car goes faster, but then overheating becomes a problem and the risk of blowing the motor increases.

NASCAR taught me about grill blocking (among other things) long before I stumbled upon this site. So I enjoy the technical aspects of NASCAR; that and crashes
