Motorsports were actually invented by businessmen because people weren`t even interested in cars and racing made it exciting, thus rich folks got interested in cars and bought them. Cars were pretty hard to make and so highly priced until a good chap named Henry Ford came along and invented the first car for men of average wealth, it all went bazookas from then on and here we are.
Motorsports do stink because of fuel and noise pollution, yet they are awesome for technology advancement because the teams are well funded and don`t have to comply to any of the trends in society and latest marketing bull****, they just have to go faster.
I`d just like to see for instance F1 regulations to limit allowed fuel used for a race and add time penalty for excessive fuel use. I bet we`d pretty soon see fuel saving innovations beyond our dreams. Just check out all kinds of aerodynamic magic those F1 engineers have been doing in the past few years.
