From being a retired master electrician and current engineer, I clean, maintain at every oil change (about 1 a month) and clear coat them to protect. Just what I do, plus the extra time working on that gains me one extra barley pop.
I drive mine about 250,000 miles then sell them as starter cars to teens and I get top dollar for what they are because they have no rust and no known issues. Just how I operate and am comfortable. I know guys that haven't changed the oil in their ride in 40,000 and swear it is fine, I just am not comfortable doing that.
