Ha ha, that's exactly what I am trying to avoid. I hit 33.7mpg on the lie-o-meter on the downhill drive to work. Averaged 52mph. Way back? Traffic...32mph average and 22.3mpg 
Hybrids rule here in Los Angeles. I averaged 8mph on the 6-mile section over the Sepulveda pass...any non-hybrid is going to suck on that section.
