I figure take the blue book value then subtract the repair costs, so a window seal from the dealership is $40, transmission from the junk yard is $100 to $200 and a clutch is $50 to $150 from the parts store, first time I ever replaced a transmission on a civic vx it took me 8 hours including a trip to the car wash to pressure wash the dirt off the one I was installing and for car repairs that require skill or that I have to wash cloths or bandaide knuckles afterwards I charge $25 an hour for, so my time to change a transmission is worth $200, a mechanic might charge $300 to $700 to swap it out.
But the important question about a civic VX is how rusty is it? you bought it in Portland OR so it should be pretty clean other then the dents and blue book value on it is $2,500??? fix it, detail it and put it on Ebay and you might get $3000 to $4000 judging from how they have been selling the past few months, or put it on craigs list and you should have it sold in a week for about $1,000 less.
