FWIW, an ICE engine being operated for
maximum power output is commonly at full-throttle and thus basically has NO throttle-restriction (anymore). And, under such conditions
cold air is more beneficial to increased
HP --which is part of the OP's experiment -- while, conversely,
hot air is better for
FE, which is what he sought (I believe).
